Henry Barclay Swete (1835-1917)

Swete was a tireless, conservative Anglican scholar. A clergyman's son, he was born in Bristol, educated at King's College, London, and at Cambridge. We was professor of pastoral theology at King's College (1882-90), issued the Old Testament in Greek (3 volumes), 1887-91, and became regius professor of divinity at Cambridge in 1890 until his retirement in 1915. The long out of print works of his that we have are as follows:

• Appearances of Our Lord after the Passion, 1907. Most all the technical material is in the footnotes. Thus, it is not difficult to read, and is a gold mine of interpretation in an area that is often neglected: our Lord's 40 days on earth after His resurrection and then after His ascension. • The Ascended Christ is the sequel to the above work, first published in 1910. Christ is presented as prophet, priest, king, mediator, head, present ministry, His coming again, and His judgment. 128 pages. (table of contents)
• The Holy Spirit in the New Testament, 1916, is an exhaustive study of the Spirit's work in the New Testament. Occasionally technical with Greek and Hebrew, but one can still mine a lot of gold from this classic work. 348pages in ebook format. (table of contents)
• The Holy Catholic Church, published in 1919, this is a study in the communion of the saints and of the Apostles' Creed. 183 pages in ebook format. (table of contents)
• The Book of Revelation, 1906, technical, requiring good knowledge of Greek to use, 628 pages in ebook form. (table of contents)
